Turning SEND reform into practical action

The Department for Education has published its schools white paper, Every Child Achieving and Thriving, alongside the HM Government consultation, SEND Reform: Putting Children and Young People First.

Together, these documents set out the DfE’s vision to improve the lives of children and young people by creating one education system that supports mainstream schools to become truly inclusive and takes education into the 2030s.

This represents a whole-system change, with SEND reform planned over the next ten years. The proposals outline a long-term implementation plan focused on delivering a high-quality education for every child and young person, beginning in the early years and continuing throughout every stage of education, preparing them for future success and the transition to adulthood.

This briefing will provide an overview of the key proposals set out in the SEND Reform consultation and referenced in the White Paper, helping senior leaders and SEND staff understand what the proposed changes could mean for their schools and how they may need to respond in practice.
